Back in August, I was honored with a SAMHSA Voice Award for Peer Leadership! The Voice Awards program honors peer leaders and TV/film professionals who educate the public about behavioral health. Through their work and personal stories of resilience, both groups of leaders demonstrate that people with mental and/or substance use disorders can and do recover and lead meaningful lives. The ceremony was held at UCLA's Royce Hall and hosted by Chandra Watson (also known as Dr. Bailey in Grey's Anatomy).
Just last week, SAMHSA posted videos from the ceremony. Below is my acceptance speech.
Thank you all for supporting this project over the years. I couldn't have done any of this without your unwavering support and encouragement—not to mention the bravery and willingness to share of all of the people who have been a part of the project so far.
